Help data center owners translate business, operational, SLA, redundancy, maintainability, and customer requirements into clear technical criteria for the design team.
Review mechanical designs from an owner/operator perspective, including chilled water plants, cooling towers, pumps, CRAHs, CDUs, hydronic loops, controls, maintainability, and commissioning readiness.
Evaluate whether existing or planned facilities are ready for high-density AI deployments, CDU integration, facility water systems, TCS loops, flow capacity, controls, alarms, and thermal risk.
Review sequences of operation, PID control intent, alarm logic, reset strategies, BAS/BMS/SCADA points, Modbus/BACnet/OPC-UA integration, and failure response.
Support owners by reviewing FAT scripts, commissioning plans, L1–L5 test scripts, failure simulations, rapid restart tests, power-loss recovery, and integrated systems testing.
Identify design, controls, operational, and commissioning gaps that could create downtime risk, thermal excursions, poor alarm response, or potential SLA violations.
Improve PUE/WUE and plant performance through chilled water reset, tower optimization, pump/fan control, VFD evaluation, trend review, and practical operational improvements.
Relevant Experience
Principal Eric Yang brings over 20 years of mechanical engineering experience, including direct
hyperscale data center expertise from Amazon Web Services and Vantage Data Centers. His work has
focused on improving the operational performance of existing data center mechanical infrastructure,
including cooling system optimization, airflow performance evaluation, and energy efficiency
improvements for large-scale facilities. Eric is actively involved in ASHRAE Technical Committees (TC)
9.9 (Mission Critical Facilities) and TC 7.6 (Building Energy Performance), where he has chaired the
Energy Management Subcommittee since 2021.
